The YG1 55579 finishing end mill measures 5/16″ in diameter with a 1-5/8″ length of cut, featuring a 5.2x length-to-diameter ratio that delivers extended reach and rigidity for deeper profiling and finishing tasks. Its 4-flute design, paired with a 30° helix angle and bright coating, forms a sharp, polished cutting edge that reduces friction and prevents melting or burr formation in non-ferrous metals such as brass and bronze. This tool excels in profiling and finishing on non-ferrous materials, where its lower helix angle minimizes grabbing and supports smooth chip evacuation. The bright coating enhances surface finish quality and tool life throughout these operations. Without a corner radius, edge chipping prevention is less critical, while the sharp geometry aids fine detail work. Hard steel applications are usually better handled by coated end mills. The end mill is also less appropriate for highly abrasive or hard materials beyond the specified non-ferrous and cast iron groups.
