Applications

Balancing reach and rigidity, the YG1 86579 solid carbide finishing end mill features a 5/16″ diameter and 13/16″ length of cut, yielding a length-to-diameter ratio of 2.6. Its five flutes and 45° helix angle, paired with a bright coating, provide smooth, low-friction cutting that reduces built-up edge and produces clean finishes, especially in aluminum and copper alloys. Optimized for finishing wall and floor applications in 6061/6082 aluminum and gummy copper alloys, this tool’s polished geometry and large flute valleys help prevent welding and smearing during slotting and pocketing. The center cutting design allows effective plunge cutting; however, it lacks a corner radius, so careful handling is required to avoid chipping in interrupted cuts. Coated end mills are typically the better choice for hard steels.
